It feels as though it’s been a minute since Nike showed their Air Max 1 silhouette some love with a concession of big releases. Maybe the look had taken a bit of a backseat whilst the AJ1 and SB Dunk ran the show for the start of 2020?

Maybe things are changing, however, as Nike are now dropping their “City Pack” collection for the Air Max 1 containing two new colourways. Both drawing inspiration from two or Europe’s most iconic cities: London and Amsterdam.

City packs are always a big hit with fans, and seem to produce some truly great designs; just look at the Air Jordan 1 ‘Milan’ for instance. That took the famous colours of the city’s architecture, mixed it with some fine Italian leather craftsmanship and produced one of this year’s must have AJ1 looks.

Well, Nike have gone once again down the architecture route with their new Air Max 1 looks. Only this time it is the cold and diverse London skyline and the warmer, canal tattooed view of Amsterdam.

Air Max 1 London

For the London look, Nike have gone for a Grey and Valerian Blue colour scheme that keeps things cool compared to the warmer Amsterdam look. The shoe is built up of layers of mesh, suede and even corduroy to represent the diverse city of London.

In what is going to be an inspired piece of design, Nike have included an embroidered representation of the Thames running through the Nike branding across the heel tab.

Air Max 1 Amsterdam

For the Amsterdam design Nike have chosen a warmer Red/Khaki/Peach colourway using layers of smooth and rough suede, leather and corduroy all across the upper to represent the buildings of the Netherlands famous destination.

The heel tab also includes an embroidered canal representation amongst the Nike branding in similar vein to the River Thames look from the London design. The shoe also features a ‘XXX’ across the toe, taken from Amsterdam’s coat of arms.

The Nike city pack drops on March 19, exclusively across Europe at selected Nike stores and on the SNKRS app. Fans can expect a $160 (£129.95) price tag and we expect it to sell out quickly on release.
