When is this COMME des GARÇONS x Jumpman collaboration dropping?

Originally unveiled at COMME des GARÇONS’ Autumn/Winter 2019 presentation. The CDG x Air Jordan 1 has been further showcased online with images of both a black and a white colourway appearing across the internet. Although the shoes are yet to be granted an official release date, or retail price, we expect the shoes to drop sometime in the second half of 2019, most likely in the Autumn.

What is the inspiration behind the CDG x Air Jordan 1 design?

As I already mentioned the CDG x Air Jordan 1 was debuted during the COMME des GARÇONS runway show for Autumn/Winter 2019. The theme of the show was clearly massively inspired by the moodiness of 70’s and 80’s goth culture. With the models sporting heavy black eye makeup and heavily-shaped hair, as well as plenty of all-black, harness-heavy looks appearing throughout. The Air Jordan collaboration is said to be inspired by “biker culture” but the look follows a similar pattern. Featuring in one of designer Rei Kawakubo‘s strongest recent menswear collections.

What does the shoe look like?

Just like the apparel from the aforementioned runway show. The CDG x Air Jordan 1 brings a heavily gothic vibe. Offering tonal variations of black and white. These two colourways pay homage to the ubiquitous biker culture with a matching extended tongue and cross-strap for a redesigned motorcycle boot look. Metallic embellishments hang as both design and hardware, acting as the iteration’s only contrasting pop of colour. The Air Jordan 1’s typical branding details can be found on the panels, ankle flaps and heels. CDG and Jordan Brand top it off with a joint Jumpman and COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS emblem on the tongue for a luxurious finish.
