Back in 2013, we saw the official release of the player exclusive Oregon Ducks Jordan 5. The sneaker hit grail status instantly, especially to anybody that went to the University of Oregon.
Well, fast-forward seven years, and we are finally getting the closest matching colourway to the much-hyped original release to date.
The original
The original release may well be one of the most highly sought after Jordan 5’s ever to release. The silhouette came dressed perfectly to match the uniforms of the Oregon Duck’s football team in the USA. The apple green upper to match the team’s jersey crafted from nubuck. The pop of a yellow strike on the midsole to reflect the colour of the numbers on the jerseys.
The highlight of the sneaker for many of us was the inclusion of the infamous Oregon ‘O’ and the team’s famous mascot ‘The Oregon Duck’. These logo’s feature on the player’s helmets and jerseys every season. Including them in this PE exclusive added to the sneakers appeal, with the masses wanting to get their hands on a pair. The O features on the sneaker’s tongue whilst the mascot hangs out on the heels of each.
Unfortunately, the pairs were limited to players of the Oregon Ducks. This meant the everyday collector never really had the chance to get their hands on them. If you really want a pair, you can grab them on the resale marketplace, but you’ll be spending anywhere between £4000 and £5000.
That was up until now, with some modifications from the original release, the Oregon Duck Jordan 5 is back!
The newness
This year’s version is instantly recognisable as a nod to the OG Ducks silhouette. The same nubuck upper graces this version of the shoe as well as that perfect pop of yellow contrasting the upper flawlessly.
The significant changes we see on the re-release is the removal of the Oregon Ducks branding. With the relationship built up between Nike co-founder Phil Knight and the Ducks, it’s a mystery why their branding has been removed. But make no mistake about it, even without the duck this sneaker still delivers.
The standard, legendary Air Max technology stars once more. Running across the entire sole of the sneaker, ensuring unparalleled comfort on and off the field or court.
