These past few months haven’t been easy for L.A Clippers star Kahwi Leonard after his side’s poor showing at the NBA play-offs was followed by revelations of his diva-like behaviour behind the scenes. But as front and centre of New Balance’s court-friendly footwear, the NBA superstar is refusing to allow any of that negativity to get in the way of his collab’s Christmas plans, with a new iteration of his signature sneaker ready to land next week.
Arriving in various shades of blue, the New Balance Kawhi “Snowman” is easily one of the silhouette’s boldest releases to date, and the icy tones throughout mean its festive season arrival is timed to perfection. The shoe’s uppers are constructed predominantly from mesh, which is surrounded by fabric panels featuring an attention-grabbing pattern that has near-hypnotic qualities if you stare at it for too long!
Elsewhere the shoe indulges in shiny arrangements, with glossy reinforcements at the toe and heel painted in the same turquoise hue found on the treading underfoot. A Fuel Cell midsole dressed in a shiny silver coat provides another layer of visual appeal, while also ensuring the shoe conforms to the usual standard of comfort that we’ve come to expect from any New Balance release.
The usual “KAWHI” branding on the tongue is replaced with a polar bear’s claw-bearing paw gripping an icy-coloured basketball, to put the finishing touches on a colourway that begs to be noticed whether you’re wearing them on or off the basketball court.
