20th April has now become a standout date for people who indulge in a certain expensive habit; one that upsets parents but ultimately leaves those who partake with a feeling of bliss – its sneaker release date.

The sneaker in question celebrates 4/20, a date that, if it had an official sneaker, it would be Nike SB. After all this isn’t the first time Nike have put out an SB look to commemorate the green holiday. One of those previous releases is the “Skunk” look, of which the new “420” styling takes inspiration from.

In a move that the marketing and design team no doubt thought was a cute move, but one which fans are probably not going to be so happy about, Nike will only be releasing 420 pairs of the Dunk High “420”. Clever, right? We’ll have to see.

A limited release makes sense for an adventurous silhouette that is a shoe many would describe as ‘not for everyone’. The “420” reverses the “Skunk” colourway with a two-tone fuzzy suede construction and has features inspired by the Purple Haze strain with green accents on the Swoosh and the rubber outsole.

The suede upper starts with a purple base with pinkish overlays on toe and ankle. Embroidered on the heel is ‘1/420’ in black, which may mean we’re set for individually embroidered numbers for each release.

The insole has a skunk graphic that is so good it’s almost a shame to be hidden away inside. Another nice little touch is the well-concealed stash pocket hidden inside the tongue; just be careful how you use this depending on where in the world you manage to secure yourself a pair.

Pairs drop on 20 April, obviously, at select skate shops and on the Nike SNKRS app. Get involved in as many raffles as you can for a chance to get your hands on the limited number of pairs.
