Although it’s been a pretty torrid year for us all, for the Nike Dunk collections this past 12 months has actually been a roaring success. Indeed, while the world as we know it was falling apart, Nike were busy crafting some incredible designs and the Dunks have gone down as this year’s most in-demand collections, proving that 2020 wasn’t all that bad – if you’re a trainer that is!
Never a company prepared to rest on its laurels, Nike is aiming to continue that success next year with a stunning iteration of the Dunk Low that’s designed to celebrate Chinese New Year in style.
Fans of Nike’s “What The” creations will love the mismatched theme on this one, with huge distinctions in terms of both colour and texture between right and left. Images show the pair uses various prints and patterns including a sandy-coloured shaggy suede, ostrich print and floral watercolours. Space-age silver is also found on one of the Swooshes (only on the right shoe, mind), and even the treading is mixed, painted yellow one side and a blueish grey on the other.
Elsewhere, the shoes feature Chinese characters on the reverse, along with a special emblem on the rear of the lateral, and rounding off the look is the traditional Nike SB branding on the tongue, although in keeping with the rest of the shoe’s vibe these arrive in different colours.
This isn’t the first time Nike has conjured up a dazzling new style to celebrate Chinese New Year. Earlier this year the brand released the YOR (Year of the Rat) collection, which introduced a 12-part pack in recognition of the Chinese zodiac entering a new cycle. And now they’re back with this eye-catching version of the Nike Dunk Low, which is bound to be a hit with those who like their footwear to command attention.
The official release date is yet to be revealed, although with Chinese New Year taking place on February 12th you can expect the arrival to come around that date. As ever, as soon as more information becomes known we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
