The last round of sacai x Nike LDV Waffle trainers were a class apart from the rest and provided Nike with a unique and authentic look for fans to variate their rotation with. Whilst 2019’s looks from visionary Chitose Abe were colourful and vibrant, for 2020’s reuniting between the designer and American trainer powerhouse Nike, we are being treated to two super clean White Nylon & Black Nylon looks.

The combination of the LDV and the Waffle Racer sees us presented with a multi-layered, multi-faceted design that builds on last year’s mix of materials, only this time it opts for a near complete nylon construction, intertwined with leather and suede.

The double layering lent itself perfectly to the multi-coloured designs of last year. Off-set swooshes and unilateral lines meant the likes of the LDV Waffle Green Pink and Daybreak Blue could have contrasting colour schemes going on in the same look without the two clashing. Instead, the design was able to meld the two colour schemes together perfectly in an abstract fashion.

Now we are looking at colourways that bring trainers back to their bare roots colour wise with white and black designs. The real question with the basic colour schemes is: does the sacai x LDWaffle stand up to the test?

White Nylon

Nike haven’t gone full in on the white. After all it would be a shame to completely waste the unique levelling. Instead they have gone for a white and grey palette to fully accentuate the Swooshes, tongue, midsole, branding and soleplate.

The new look is also equipped with ribbon laces, gold lace steps and white Waffle rubber outsole. The finished shoe is a bizarre combination of minimalist colouring alongside ostentatious design.

Black Nylon

With straight and offset lines in deep black colouring, the black nylon colourway is one of the more eye-catching blackout designs. The Swoosh stands out thanks to the change in hue from the Nylon upper paired up with suede and leather at the toe cap and heel. The look is quintessentially Japanese street chic. Finished with satin ribbon laces and blacked out branding to complete the look.

Both versions of the new Nike sacai x LDWaffle will be available from March 10 at 8am. Both pairs are going to be $160 (£139.95) and will be available from Nike.com, the SNKRS app and in some selected stores.
