Off-White ODSY-1000

Virgil Abloh is a very busy man, a master of spinning plates, and what I’ve learnt from following the great man’s work is that there is always something new around the corner, whether that be for his brainchild brand Off-White. For his relatively new employers at Louis Vuitton or something else entirely, we are never far away from something new to get excited about. So with the announcement that the new Off-White ODSY-1000 trainer which was initially unveiled at Paris Fashion Week FW19 is now available for pre-order naturally there comes a certain level of frenzy among fans of Virgil’s work. The Off-White ODSY-1000 silhouette adheres to the current trend of hiker-style trainers which are beginning to somehow take over the fashion landscape, boasting an eye-catching chunky sole and industrial belt heel tab. The partially translucent upper, paired with a bright orange lacing system, has strong remnants of Abloh’s Nike collaborations, most notably the OFF-WHITE x Nike Zoom Fly with the two clearly sharing similar DNA in the aforementioned area.

The Off-White ODSY-1000 is a stand-alone Off-White product but around about the same time of the Abloh announcement that they are available for pre-order we also got a much more in-depth look at the new Off-White x Nike collaborative trainer, one which we personally think is going to be much more coveted than the ODSY-1000. The Off-White x Nike Zoom Terra Kiger 5 from the duo’s Athlete in Progress collection has been expected for a while now and was first showcased during Virgil Abloh’s Track & Field component of his Paris Fashion Week show and will be dropping in three colourways. The Athlete in Progress collection comprises a balance of performance product and post-run apparel and footwear, all of which are inspired by Nike’s retro running shoe design. The trainer features a nylon upper with suede overlays and a hiking-inspired lacing system in keeping with Off-Whites more general obsession with ‘hiking style’ in 2019 that wraps further around both sides of the foot. A Nike Zoom sole sits in between the upper and a spiked, track and field-inspired outsole. While Off-White’s customary branding is seen on the medial side of the shoe, as well as on the zip tie attached to the laces.

Off-White x Nike

The Off-White x Nike Zoom Terra Kiger 5, will be released globally on June 27. An initial limited release of the sneaker and a run top and tight will precede the global launch, with details yet to be announced by Nike. The fresh collaborative silhouette was showcased on the feet of Virgil Abloh at Coachella, but since then, even more, close up, and personal images have been launched of the shoe. It appears both the stand-alone Off-White shoe line and the next Nike collection are following a similar lineage, but we are pretty confident which ones people are going to prefer. With more also on the horizon for Off-White & Nike with a Nike Waffle Racer also touted for adaptation within the Athlete in Progress theme as well as the MCA inspired blue Air Force 1 there is going to be plenty of Off-White x Nike Trainers to consider, so I think we are going to forgive you for overlooking the Off-White ODSY-1000.
