Parra x Nike

Nike and Amsterdam based brand Parra are no strangers to collaboration, having forged a relationship that has amassed several projects spanning almost a decade. With the most recent additions to their collaborative portfolio coming in 2018 with the release of the Parra x Nike Air Max 1 and Parra x Zoom Spiridon respectively which saw artist Piet Parra apply his light-hearted design language to two of Nike’s premium silhouettes. Featuring colourful fragments from the artist’s work, inspired by the Dutch countryside and his love of visual pop culture, these vibrant colourways stood out in 2018 and with the previous success of the Air Max 1 Premium Cherrywood x Patta x Parra from 2010 which saw two giants of the Dutch fashion scene in Patta and Parra team up. It made it overtly apparent that there is considerable interest in what the brand has to offer in a footwear complex, notably as the Cherrywood traded at upwards of $5000.

Parra x Nike SB Dunk Low

So when it was announced that 2019 would see a new design from Parra in collaboration with Nike, it was met with pretty universal excitement. The Parra x Nike SB Dunk Low has since been confirmed with official images to match, and it appears Parra has been commissioned to create a playful update to the beloved skate sneaker. Sporting Parra’s signature red, white and blue colour palette similar to the designs released in 2018, the Nike SB Dunk Low follows the example set by that duo with an array of equally playful details applied to this model. Using a clean white base tone across the entirety of the shoes upper and rubber outsole, this design’s central aesthetic comes in the way of a series of layered Swooshes in thematic resonances, finished with a chenille white Swoosh, and an embroidered blue Swoosh near the toe. To complete the upper of this model, there is an asymmetric co-branding stitched on the heel and a patterned sock liner insole combo informed by Parra’s signature colour-blocking. While the shoe’s thick tongue sports a unique Parra tag, also coming equipped with two bespoke sets of thick laces – white and patterned – complete by Parra-branded tips.
