What we know about the drop?
If you weren’t already aware the Nike SB Dunk silhouette has seen somewhat of a revival of late. The skateboarding favourite has even received adaptations from the likes of Virgil Abloh and Eric Koston. Previously we have seen a Supreme Nike SB Dunk drop in 2012, and the 2019 variation builds on the imprint left by the iconic ‘Cement’ colourway. Arriving with a Metallic Silver toe box, and mini-Swoosh as well as an upper which is mostly composed of Black leather. Vibrant Silver hits are present throughout the shoes construction. While an embroidered Supreme logo badge exists near the lateral heel. More details include a white Nike SB badge on the tongue. With an insole employing Supreme’s red, with its logo split between both left and right.
The shoe is currently slated for a release on September 12 via Supreme’s webstore, select skate shops, and Nike.com. With a retail price set at £90.
Supreme’s long history with the Nike SB Dunk
Pre-dating even the 2012 Supreme Nike SB Dunk there is actually a much richer history between Supreme and the silhouette. In fact their sublime transformation of the Nike SB Dunk Low in 2002 is fondly remembered as one of the most influential footwear collaborations of all-time. They altered the made-for-skate Dunk with design elements of the Air Jordan 3. Pairing elephant prints with two iconic colourways of the the famed Jordan shoes. Which is attributed with kickstarted the craze for SBs and the rise of trainer collecting as a whole.
As previously mentioned the two brands revisited that design in 2012 and made it a round trio with the release of an alternate red version. Which was suggested to be perhaps as a tribute to the Air Jordan 3 “Fire Red”. While all three are established Hall Of Fame instalments, breaking necks consistently in an era where the cracked grey leather pattern has been overdone to a crisp.
