Anyone whose knowledge of b-ball history is up to scratch should know the Air Jordan 6 “Carmine” played a brief but pretty important role in sneaker culture during the early-90s. At the height of his powers, Michael Jordan and his Chicago Red Bulls team had just won their first NBA Championship, and to start the new season His Airness needed a fresh and exciting new sneaker for the first season as champions.

Nike didn’t disappoint, introducing the Air Jordan 6 “Carmine”, which was a bold and audacious update to the silhouette. Although sneakers have developed over the years with ever-evolving design specs, back then this was considered ground-breaking – and for good reason.

With a rather risky red/white colour block that probably wasn’t to everyone’s taste, coupled with a suede and leather combo construction, the shoe pulled no punches and made a real statement when it first hit the court. Now, it’s back, arriving in OG shape with the original materials to match and it’s set to be one of the year’s biggest Air Jordan releases.

With only a few updates over the past three decades – one in 2008 as part of the Countdown Series and another in 2014 that came as a stand alone retro – the scarcity of the Air Jordan 6 “Carmine” has made it all the more sought-after, with sneakerheads, as ever, eager to get their hands on some of the more exclusive kicks around. This suggests these might be difficult to cop, although with Lady Luck on your side you might just get the rub of the green when they drop!

The Air Jordan 6 “Carmine” will arrive on February 13th and as ever it’ll go on sale at Nike SNKRS, as well as with select retailers.
