The Grateful Dead have been at he heart of counter culture in the Bay Area since the 1960s. Since their inception they have sold over 30 million records and have been rewarded with a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Next up on their achievement list is collaboration with Nike for new designs of the SB Dunk Low in some outrageously counter-culture colourways. The new looks are straight out of the History of The Grateful Dead, Volume 1 (Bear’s Choice). This was album has inspired the look of the Grateful Dead Dunks that will be dropping in three colourways: “Bright Ceramic”, “Green Spark” and “Opti Yellow/Blue Fury”.

The yellow colourway will be the first to drop, with the ceramic and green colourways coming later.

The look is one that is going to stick long in the memory; the usual leather is replaced with a fuzzy, faux fur and hairy suede. The suede has a deep yellow colouring with the extravagant fuzziness a more vibrant “Opti Yellow”.

Laces, sockliner and midsole all are decked out in yellow whilst the Nike Swoosh, retaining its leather structures but gaining a jagged edge is balanced with “Blue Fury” colouring.

Branding on the tongue contains the Grateful Dead Bear, which also boasts a little splash of blue, so too does the outsole, specially constructed to withstand the brutality of skating. The grateful dead bear can also be found on the inside of the sockliner.

The new look Grateful dead x Nike SB Dunk Low “Opti Yellow” will be releasing on July 24 on the Nike store as well as the Nike SNKRS app. Head over to Laced’s online trainers platform after release date to find the best prices on the resale market.
