The ‘Athlete in Progress’ collection continues to roll along after initial release in June. Abloh has been bouncing back and forth between Nike and Louis Vuitton, working on both his Off-White collection and as director of men’s wear collection at the high-end fashion retailer, producing huge collections for both ends of the style spectrum.

His latest instalment for Nike is a handful of new colourways for the Nike x Off-White Vapor Street. The modern running silhouettes have brought a unique look back to the sneaker world with the reintroduction of a rubber running spiked outsole and a secondary lacing system on the upper in a very Abloh-esque colour-blocking.

A lot of features from the Terra Kiger 5s – released a few months ago – carry over to the vapor street. The bulbous construction, textile upper with duo-lacing system has become iconic for the ‘Athlete in Progress’ look that helps secure the foot with ultimate hold.

Where it all began

The ‘Athlete in progress’ collection began as a women’s running project in the summer of 2018. Talking with these athletes is where he found his inspiration in the form of the retro style, track and field aesthetics. From there, he took Dina Asher-Smith, Vashti Cunningham, Cecilia Yeung, English Gardner, Katerina Johnson-Thompson, Nafi Thiam, Caterine Ibarguen and Renelle Lamonte to showcase his collaboration with Nike in Paris later in 2018. The athletes showcased the new collection on the catwalk and got the hype rolling on the new athletics collection.

The three new colourway designs are: Laser Fuchsia, Polarized Blue and Tour Yellow. They will be released on November 14, so be sure to check in with Laced to try and get your hands on a pair using our online trainers’ platform.
