Yeezy Day August 2nd 2019

On August 2nd 2019 for Yeezy Day, Adidas US and Yeezy Supply restocked a number of iconic styles from their expansive archive. This decision was made as an attempt to bring us closer to fulfilling Kanye West’s trainer prophecy of allowing everyone the opportunity to eventually own Yeezys. The day of drops began with Semi-Frozen Yellow and Butter colourways for the Yeezy Boost 350 v2. Two shoes that are considered holy grails in the ‘sneakerhead’ community.

Following these two was a 14-hour period in which 30 styles from the Yeezy catalogue were restocked on Adidas US and Yeezy Supply alternately. Naturally selling out incredibly quickly. With many die hard fans spending hours in a virtual waiting room for no eventual reward. Leaving the fan base frustrated as expectation turned to despair.

Social Media backlash

Many sneakerheads took to social media to express their displeasure with the checkout process on both sites. As well as the long waits and in some cases disappointing selection of shoes being restocked. The most common gripe was about having to spend a great deal of time in a virtual waiting room, just to come up empty in the end. The general consensus being that Yeezy Day on the whole for the majority of people would be considered a giant ‘L’.

Another major issue with Yeezy day for a lot of people has been excellently illustrated in the below tweet. Fans waiting for hours to finally get their hands on a potentially coveted product at restock. Yet when it comes to it the majority of the re-releases they have been shoes that aren’t that difficult to get hold of in the first place. Models like the Yeezy 700 Utility Black, which are readily available at pretty much retail for most sizes on the secondary market already. The highlight of the day for a lot of people instead came in the way of the shock return of the Yeezy 750 Brown.
